“Where Did My Family Go?”

If dogs could speak and tell us why they ended up homeless in a shelter, this is what they’d say.

Higgins would tell his story of losing his family after being left tethered to the door of a local animal rescue facility with a bowl of food and water close by. At first, Higgins was terrified and reactive to any new strangers approaching him, despite intent to help. Higgins had been sent back to the shelter he had once been adopted. Higgins became very depressed being back in the shelter environment and would not interact with potential adopters walking by.

According to the ASPCA, about twice as many animals come into the shelter as a stray compared to the number that are relinquished by their owner. Higgins was technically found as a stray since there was no adult to surrender him present.

Higgins came to Hard Knocks July 2021 and is still looking for his forever home.
